Steve Gustafson
Steve is a managing partner of Gustafson Piano Tuning bringing over a decade of experience in piano tuning alongside a lifelong dedication to music. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Eastern Michigan University (1988) and a Master of Music degree from Louisiana State University (1994). Steve’s deep musical roots are reflected in his extensive background as both a performer and educator.
In addition to his work with Gustafson Piano Tuning, Steve currently serves as the organist at First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge. Since the 1990s, he has held organist and pianist positions at several area churches, including Winbourne Avenue Baptist Church, Jefferson United Methodist, First Baptist Baton Rouge, and The Chapel on the Campus at LSU.
Steve’s passion for teaching has led him to instruct students at River Parishes Community College, Baton Rouge Community College, the Academy Music Preparatory School at LSU, and Baton Rouge Music Studios. His teaching style emphasizes the foundational elements of music across genres and career paths, fostering well-rounded musicianship in his students.
As a performer, Steve is a familiar presence on the Baton Rouge music scene. He has played piano at celebrated local restaurants such as Mansur's, Sullivan's, Gino's, and currently Stab’s Prime. He has also performed Carmina Burana with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, contributed his talents to pit orchestras for local musical theater productions, and spent nearly a decade playing keyboards in a wedding band.
Steve’s commitment to musical excellence and his diverse experiences as a tuner, performer, church musician, and educator have made him an integral part of the region’s vibrant music community.
Jarrett Gustafson
Jarrett Gustafson, apprentice at Gustafson Piano Tuning, is a recent graduate of Louisiana State University where he earned his degree in jazz guitar. His formal training gives him a deep understanding of harmony, tone, and musical nuance—skills that translate directly to his work with pianos. Jarrett’s ear for voicing, balance, and dynamic shading helps him identify subtle issues in tone and touch, enabling precise adjustments that improve both playability and musical expression.
At Gustafson Piano Tuning, Jarrett assists with regulation, voicing, and tuning under the guidance of senior technicians. His background in jazz performance and ensemble playing enhances his ability to collaborate with clients—whether preparing instruments for practice, performance, or recording. Jarrett brings patience, discipline, and a musician’s perspective to every instrument he works on, ensuring pianos not only sound accurate but also respond with the musical character players expect.
Outside of tuning work, Jarrett remains active as a performer and educator, continuing to develop his craft and stay connected to current musical practices. His combination of academic training and hands-on apprenticeship makes him a reliable, musically informed member of the Gustafson team.
From Our Clients
Steve’s knowledge and expertise is vast. His piano-side manner is that of dear friend. He truly made me believe he cared as much for my little spinnet as he did for my antique grand. I will forever trust my instruments to Gustafson!
